Red, White, & Blue Mosaic Flower Vase

Supplies: glass vase, multi-surface paint (red, white, and blue), paint brush, & thin painters tape

Supplies: glass vase, multi-surface paint (red, white, and blue), paint brush, & thin painters tape

Step 1: Start by washing your glass surface.

Step 2: Cut strips of thin painters tape and outline the edges of the glass vase. This will be your painting workspace. Use small strips of painters tape to create an abstract, geometric pattern. Make sure the tape is pressed down as well as possible.

Step 3: Mix different shades of red and blue paint by mixing in white. I used about 3 shades of red paint, 3 shades of blue paint, and white paint. Paint in the open spaces. You will probably need about 3 coats of each color before the paint looks opaque on the glass surface. Let the paint dry for several hour.

Step 4: *Important step!* Before removing the tape, use an x-acto knife to trace your tape lines to separate the paint from the tape. From my first failed experiment, if you remove the tape without tracing with the knife, the paint spaces that you want to stay will come right off with the tape.

Step 5: Carefully lift the edges of the painters tape and slowly remove piece by piece starting with the top layers.

Step 6: Carefully paint a layer of Modpodge over your paint surface. This will protect and seal your paint.

Happy 4th of July!
