Easy DIY Thanksgiving Place Cards & Hostess Tips

One of my favorite pastimes during the holidays (other than overeating) is decorating the table for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner with my mom. We usually use a mismatch of fall decor that we find around the house to build a beautiful centerpiece, complete with candle sticks, pine cones, and foliage.

Whether you are hosting a formal Thanksgiving family dinner or a casual Friendsgiving lunch, I have a super easy DIY to help your guests find their seats.

All you will need for this DIY are some artificial Autumnal leaves (I got mine from Michaels), a few thin white paint pens, and a pair of scissors.

The artificial leaves typically come attached to a branch, so you’ll want to start by cutting off the leaves at their stem. The leaves can be different colors and sizes. I used a mix of sizes and some of my leaves are even a metallic gold color.

Using a paint pen, write your guest’s names neatly across each leaf. I found that I had to paint over the name a few times before it really showed up. It’s difficult to write straight since the leaves have a lot of ridges, but just be patient and slow! And luckily it has a very natural look so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

These leaf place cards will look great on both a very formal china place setting or even on a casual paper plate tablescape!
