Make Your Own Anthropologie-Inspired Icon Vases

Anthropologie has a line of icon juice glassware that has become hugely popular in the past few years. It’s always so fun to see what new symbol they come out with each season and I know a lot of people like to collect them. I’ve noticed they’ve also expanded the collection into other home decor items in the same “icon” style — like vases! I love the look of them, but I can’t really justify having a bunch of glass vases for different holidays in my small space. So I thought it would be fun to make my own that could be changed up for the season!

This project is so simple, it barely needs a tutorial! But I thought I would share it with you because it is a cute and inexpensive little piece of home decor you can make for Valentine’s day — or really any season!

I went to my local thrift shop and found a few glass vases. They always seem to have so many different sizes and shapes for just a few dollars each. And I used some inexpensive 3D fabric paint to give them a whole new life! Check out the simple tutorial below :)

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ANTHROPOLOGIE-INSPIRED ICON VASES

SUPPLIES:

To begin, make sure you glass vases are clean and remove any labels or stickers.

I attempted this project first by painting my hearts right onto the glass vase but I found it really difficult to get a clean looking heart and put them in the right spot where I wanted them on the vase, so I would recommend using this page protector method!

Feed a sheet of colored paper into your clear page protector. This is just so you can see what you are painting. If you are going to attempt more complicated shapes, you could also print images of the shape on your paper to trace with your paint, but since my heart shape was pretty simple I just freehanded the design.

Then you are going to carefully squeeze your 3D paint onto the surface of your page protector in whatever shape you want. I did hearts for Valentine’s Day and I found it worked best to draw out the outline of the heart first then fill in the inside color.

You can kind of use the nozzle of the paint bottle to move the paint around to fill in your heart shape. Repeat with a bunch of hearts so that you have a lot to choose from when you decorate your vases. And don’t worry too much about making them look perfect, I think the charm of the design is in the handmade look of the icons.

Allow your paint to dry overnight. You will notice it does seem to flatten a bit more than it looks when you first paint it on as it dries. You have now essentially made yourself a bunch of puffy heart stickers!

Use your fingernail to gently lift up the edge of your heart “stickers”. You might find you need to bend your sheet protector to peel them off, but if you are careful and slow they should peel right off and keep their shape.

And then just stick them wherever you want on your glass vase! The Anthropologie icon juice glasses seem to always have a repeating pattern around the middle and they kind of zig zag up and down around the glass.

For this smaller vase, I wanted a bunch of tiny little hearts, so I actually just painted these right onto the glass vase. It is really hard to control the amount and direction of the paint in these little bottles, but I found that just making a tiny V-shape made cute little hearts.

These paint “stickers” were really sticky so you can be sure they will stay on your glass vase as long as you want. But the cool thing about this idea is you can use your nail to peel them off when you are done with them and want to switch up the look!

For my first attempt at this project, I kept it really easy with a simple heart shape. But I think it would be really fun to try this out with something a bit more complicated. Maybe some green clovers for St. Patrick’s Day? Pumpkins for Halloween?

If you found some small little bud vases, I think this project would make a cute little Valentine’s gift to give to friends. Fill the vase with some inexpensive Trader Joe’s flowers and you have the sweetest handmade & trendy piece of home decor!
